Poema aims to provide a stage for musicians of all ages. We believe that music has the incredible ability to bring the community together. We hope to share our love and passion for music with the community all while having fun!
Poema holds benefit concerts and goes busking to raise money to donate to charity organizations.




Our Team

Jenna Kang
Co-founder
Violinist, CA
Jenna Kang, 18, is a freshman at Stanford University. She began playing violin when she was 5 years old and is currently studying with Zhao Wei. She served as the concertmaster of the California Youth Symphony Associate Orchestra, second violin principal in the Senior California Youth Symphony, and is currently the assistant concertmaster. She was chosen as a violinist in Carnegie Hall's 2022 National Youth Orchestra of the United States (NYO-USA) where she will tour Europe under the baton of Daniel Harding. She was the co-concertmaster of the 2022 California All-State Orchestra. She was the first-prize winner of the DVC/HNU String Competition in 2018 and 2019. She earned first prize in 2020 at the Silicon Valley Youth Music Competition, first prize in 2017, and second-prize winner in 2016. She was the second-place winner of American Protégé in 2018 where she performed at the winners’ concert in Carnegie Hall. She was also the first prize and grand prize winner at the United States Open Music Competition in 2019. Outside of music, she loves horseback riding, researching Alzheimer's, and playing with her dogs.

Brandon Kang

Brandon Kang, 16 is a junior at Henry M. Gunn High School. He has studied cello since the age of 6 and his current teacher is Jonathan
Koh. He has also studied with Sarah Koo, a professor at UC Irvine and Hans Jørgen Jensen a professor at Northwestern University. Brandon is currently the principal cellist in the California Youth Symphony Senior orchestra and has played with them for over 4 years. Brandon was selected to participate in the XI International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, was named a 2024 National YoungArts Winner and won first place in both USOMC and USIMC several times. He also won the Alvin Docker prize from Fremont Symphony’s 2020 Young Artist Competition. He has performed as a scholarship winner of the Music Teachers’ Scholarship competition and in Berkeley as a winner of the Junior Bach Festival. Outside of music, Brandon loves to read and go on runs with his friends.

Zak Rahim

Zak Rahim is a 16-year-old junior at Henry M. Gunn High School. He is part of an organization working closely with Brandon Kang to host benefit concerts for various purposes. In the past, they have raised money for local disadvantaged musicians and international organizations such as Doctors Without Borders. Zak has helped primarily with financing and managing, as well as publicity. He is also interested in theater, performing in over a dozen plays. His contributions to Gunn Theater include being the lead role in the school play, being a member of the Gunn Improv Troupe, publicity representative for Gunn Theater, and organizing and performing improvisational comedy at a Gunn Theater event to raise money for students to go on a New York trip. Zak is very passionate about scientific research, having performed research for six weeks at the University of Northern Colorado cancer biology lab, where he worked alongside graduate and undergraduate students under Dr. Han to measure the effects of CBG on Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis. Other than that, Zak has participated in multiple science fairs. Most notable among these are being invited to participate at the national level of the Broadcom MASTERS Science fair and getting 1st place in the UNC STEM Entrepreneurship Challenge.
